FABULOUS FOURS

Our four‐year‐old program features “learning centers” which include a block corner, library corner, dramatic play area, art area, writing center and a manipulative corner. Each area contains several types of exhibits, games, materials and activities all designed to allow children to make choices, solve problems, work cooperatively and feel successful. The classrooms are equipped with the latest in computer technology. The children will have the opportunity to experience many educational wonders through the use of new technologies (i.e. iPads, computer programs/multimedia). Computers have proven to be a successful tool in reinforcing skills as well as developing new ones. All of the learning centers are designed to teach in the way kids learn best—through play,
exploration and discovery. In each area, children introduce themselves to new concepts and ideas, as well as explore the boundaries and challenge the limits of some familiar ones.

Our teachers provide the guidance, encouragement, materials and stimulation. The children provide their natural curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.

However, there is more to World Cup than just the classroom activities. Your four‐year‐old will also have access to the following facilities: our gymnastic facility (the children will visit the big gym once a week), indoor playground, two outdoor playgrounds and a bike track. The indoor playground will be a setting for creative movement, where children can explore various movements while listening to music. A variety of mats and gym equipment will allow the children to climb, jump, roll, crawl and gallop through different obstacle courses. Our outdoor playgrounds include a large gross‐motor structure, a well‐equipped sandbox, a tricycle area, two play houses, a castle, a train, lawn mowers and a grassy area where children can run with friends. Each week our children enjoy a special visit from our music teacher and a lesson from our Spanish teacher.

The four‐year‐old curriculum is designed specially to meet the needs and capabilities of four‐year‐old children, and is implemented with attention to the different interests and developmental levels of each individual child. The teachers observe the children closely and tailor their lesson plans so that every child’s special interests and talents are fully explored.  Above all, we provide a warm, loving and nurturing environment where every child will feel happy and accepted.  Each classroom will have a maximum of eighteen children, taught by three qualified teachers. There is also a supervisor and a floater to help out. Classes are offered for 5 half days, 2 half days and 3 full days or 5 full days.

World Cup also offers extended day programs. Please see our description under Enrichment Programs for more information.

Special events for the four‐year‐olds include a Storyteller, a visit from a Dentist, Pajama Day, a visit from a Magician, a visit from the Critter Lady, Imagination Day, a Holiday Concert, a visit from a Petting Zoo, Trick‐or‐Treating, a Thanksgiving Feast and much, much more. As always, parents are more than welcome to join their child in class to help with a project, read a story, play an instrument or observe.

WC KIDS’ CLUB (supporting social communication skills)

This unique six-week program is hosted at WCNS&K and is designed to facilitate positive peer interaction in a small structured setting. Each week the children will work to improve their social skills through play and teacher-facilitated activities. Currently, the program is designed for 4 –6 year olds who have been referred to the CPSE or CSE, or those who would benefit from additional support in the area of social communication skills. Parents are asked to complete a questionnaire before registering for the program.  Please feel free to contact the facilitator, Joan Weinstein (914)420-7479, if you have additional questions.
